Jobs In Web Design

Web Design Career

The term “web design” is a term to umbrella many different job titles including:

  • Producer
  • Copy writer
  • Copy editor
  • Information architect
  • Product or program manager
  • Graphic designer
  • Layout designer
  • Digital developer
  • Website Branding consultant

Some of the jobs in web design are more involved in the visual development of a website, where some are more about making the most of a website in a marketing point of view. In an ideal website, it should do both.

A website is more than just something that people skim through – for small to large businesses, websites are a powerful way to communicate information instantly to their target marketing for a low cost. They can be an excellent alternative to mass media such as radio and or TV when used properly. For personal creative websites used for portfolios including those in the photography, fashion, interior and graphic design industries, websites are powerful tools to make an impression. It is also a very quick way to display ones’ portfolio to a large audience.

The mainstream idea of web design involves being a graphic designer – which to sum it up: designs and determines the layout, theme and visual appeal based on drafts created by them or the layout designer.

Web design alternatives involve being a copy writer or editor – which is just as essential as the visual design of the process. They determine what information needs to be communicated and from there,  write valuable content which will contribute greatly to the websites visibility in search engines and provide quality fresh content for visitors to see.

If you want a web design career, you need to determine what type of job in web design you will be most suitable for, you need to look at yourself: the skills you have, how willing you are to learn and most importantly what you are passionate about. For example, you may be very passionate about creative designs – perhaps a job in web design as a graphic designer role is suited for you. If you are passionate in developing marketing strategies and watch client’s business’ bloom – a website branding consultant or producer will be more suitable. Or if you get a thrill of being able write up code which controls all the functions of a web page – a developer job may be suitable for you.
